Some Snow Coming...

Jeff Haniewich

Hello!  While we started the day with sun, we had more clouds roll in around lunch-time and since then, skies have been mostly cloudy.  We had a few rain/snow showers late in the day, but there appears to be a better chance for precipitation tonight into Saturday morning.  A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect tonight through Saturday for the border counties with West Virginia (Bland Co. north through Highland Co.), south for the western facing slopes of Wythe and Grayson Cos, where 1-3” of snow are possible.  A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Pocahontas and Greenbrier Cos. in WV tonight through Sunday morning, where 3-6” of snow are possible. Saturday will see the leftover precipitation eventually taper off, with increasing sunshine for folks outside of the mountains later in the day.  It will be a blustery day with highs near 40 degrees.  A High Wind Watch is scheduled to run from Saturday afternoon through Saturday night for Grayson, Carroll, and Floyd Counties.  All of us could have some wind gusts over 40 mph, but these aforementioned areas could have wind gusts over 55 mph!  High pressure comes back into play for us on Sunday and Monday, with mostly sunny skies in the forecast.  It will remain blustery on Sunday, with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 30s, while on Monday, highs should climb into the middle 40s.  On Tuesday (Valentine’s Day), another disturbance will approach from the west, bringing us another round of scattered showers.  If the system arrives early in the day, we will probably have a couple hours worth of a wintry mix, before the changeover to plain rain occurs.  Otherwise, we will be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid-to-upper 40s.  Both Wednesday and Thursday look to see a mix of sun and clouds and it will turn a little warmer with highs in the low-to-mid 50s.  Have a great night!
